TOOLS
Always buy the best tools you can afford. Cheap tools really aren't a saving. They don't last long, especially on the more demanding jobs. You will find that as a general rule, you only buy the better tool once because they last.
Hand grips for tools that are worn, torn or missing can be replaced with spare lengths of rubber hose, taped in place. This is worth doing as it makes a big difference to the ease of using the tool over a prolonged period.
Hand tools in particular will last a lifetime if looked after. Drying tools after they are used and applying a light coating of oil or grease where appropriate and effecting any small repairs to the tools at the earliest opportunity will save a lot of money over the years.
Tools are best stored using perforated hardboard which can be erected as a rack on a garage or workshop wall. Wire hooks will then accommodate all sizes of tools, saving space and making them readily available.
One tip worth more than it seems in terms of time saved is to get into the habit of carrying tools around in a bucket during jobs, avoiding losing them and wasting time searching for them.
