If you are prepared to repair or replace roof tiles yourself with adequate safety equipment, make some strong and sizeable wooden wedges to prop tile up while you clear out debris and carry out the necessary work.

Put fine wire mesh over any ventilation gaps to keep birds out of the roof and roof space.

Do not saw corrugated plastic panels in cold weather as they become very brittle and will break easily in these conditions. Make any holes slightly larger than the fastening and do not over-tighten to allow a little movement as the panels bed into position.

Roofing felt is easier to fix and will not stretch so much if it has been warmed slightly before fitting. A way to do this is to unroll it and lay it out in a warm place for a day or so before you use it.

Always take the time to inspect flat roofs at least annually and effect any minor repairs as soon as possible. Minor issues with flat roofs can quickly escalate and become seriously expensive.
