Boiler

BOILER

Unless the problems on a gas boiler are of a relatively simple type, you should seek Gas Board help.

Modern boilers (combination boilers or combi-boilers for short) contain all the principal components of the central heating and hot water systems nowadays. Unless the problems are specifically with particular pipes or radiators, the boiler is the place to look.

On a sealed central heating system, if water is leaking slightly from the outlet, then the expansion tank needs more air pressure. You can do this relatively easily yourself using a car tyre foot pump, but you may wish to seek further guidance.

Hard water can cause parts of a boiler to scale up and impair its performance. You can fit a scale inhibitor, with a replaceable cartridge, to the cold water feed from the tank, to help overcome this.

If you have to take part of the boiler or its attachments apart, especially anything electrical, it is worth labelling anything that you undo so that you know where to put it back after the repair.
