Bath
BATH
If installing a new plastic bath, fill it with water when checking whether it is settling on its wooden frame properly.
The colour continues right through a plastic bath, so scratches can be both treated and buffed up with wadding such as Duraglit. Deeper scratches or small cracks can be treated with a two-part acrylic paste available from DIY stores.
Whether you are installing, replacing or repairing a bath, it is easy to crack the bath itself by overtightening joints or sockets for pipework or taps, etc. To prevent this, before tightening anything that you are screwing in, put plumber's putty into the screw thread that you are fastening into. The putty will squeeze out as the joint tightens more gently, and avoid costly accidents.
An old net curtain can be used to clean a bath very effectively as it will gently get into the surface and remove the deep and stubborn grime.
You can turn a wooden side panel for a bath into a useful storage area for cleaning and similar items by adding hinges and wood to the back of it so that it hinges open from the bottom edge.
